Tires are extremely important for the safety of a car. There are several factors that decide whether a car needs new tires. If you need new tires to call your local dealership’s service center, like Bodwell Chrysler Jeep Dodge. They can help you get the tires you need to keep your car safe.

When You Should Get New Tires

Tire Tread

Tire tread is what helps the car handle better on the road. When the tread is worn down, the vehicle can not handle all weather conditions like rain and snow. Worn treads on a tire can also cause other parts of the car to wear down faster.

There is a really easy way to check if the tire tread is too low. Insert a penny into the thread with Abe’s head pointed down. If any part of Lincoln’s head is hidden, then the tires have an ok amount of tread. If Abe’s head is not hidden, it is time to replace your tires.

Age of the Tires

Regardless of the amount of tread left on the tires, any tires that are over the age of six years old should be replaced, according to many vehicles manufactures. Most tire manufacturers recommend that the tires get replaced every 10 years. Check with the tire manufactures for your specific tires.

Tires are affected by heat and from the sun’s rays. These two things cause structural damage to the times. Any extreme weather can cause changes to the tires, including cold and hot, ice and snow.

Signs of Damage

In addition to the tread and the age of the tires, if there is any sign of damage, tires should be replaced. Sires should not have the steel ropes that are inside the tires showing. If these are showing, it means the tires can blow out and cause a severe accident. The side walls of the tires should be smooth and should not have air bubbles in them. These can cause a blowout, also.
