When you are craving sugar

Yum

March 29, 2017 by Debitalks Leave a Comment

I have been having an affair. It has been going on for a very long time. I have been cheating on my healthy diet…. with sugar, fat and calories. I know I shouldn’t do it. I know it is wrong, but I can not help it. Sugar just gets me.

Ok, so I might be a little over the top there, but seriously, I love sugar. I get the worst sugar cravings. There are nights when there is no doubt that I have to have something sweet. That is the worst times. But there are times that if I eat something else junky, like too much processed or salty foods, that as soon as I am done eating I need something sweet. That is like pouring gas on a lit fire. The processed salty food was the first bad choice and then the sugar is the second bad choice.

So how to beat a sugar craving:

Distraction: First thing to do is try to distract yourself. Go for a walk. Call a friend. Do a craft or play a game with the kids.

Brush your teeth: For most people simply brushing their teeth can make a craving go away. Or at least make you less likely to give in. Food doesn’t taste as good after brushing your teeth and no one wants to mess up a clean mouth.

Out of sight, out of mind: There are days I can go without sugar, as long as I don’t see it. If I am giving something sweet to the kids, I immediately want it.

Have healthy foods easy to grab: I like to keep fruits and veggies in easy reach because sometimes I can satisfy myself with veggies and fruit.

If you can’t persuade yourself to not have sweets, then it is time to have a guilt free way to have that dessert and not get side tracked off healthy eating. Especially once you find something that easily fits into a healthy diet. VitaTops are healthy versions of the muffins that you love and crave.

VitaTops are like eating the muffin top, which of course is the best part of the muffin. At only 150 calories or less, VitaTops will not derail all of the hard work that you have done. Giant Food Store has all kinds of varieties from deep chocolate to a protein packed Chocolate Peanut Butter or Banana Chocolate Chip, to Superfood CranBran to Gluten Free Chocolate Chip.

When you are craving sugar

I can grab VitaTop muffins tops when I am at Giant Food Store. Then, I can have a VitaTop muffin for breakfast. If I pair it with some fresh fruit and some milk, it is all around balanced meal with less processed ingredients and less sugar than have my kid’s cereal and much more filling too.

I can pack a VitaTop muffin to take with me when I am on the run so that I always have something with me in case I get hungry. Like I said, processed for with a lot of salt makes me crave sweets, so drive through pull a double duty hit on my healthy diet.

And best yet, I can have a VitaTop muffin at night when the sugar cravings are at their worse.
