Philadelphia is an easy road trip from a lot of places. It is about 2 hours from the Poconos, from the Jersey shore and from New York City. Road trips are a fun way to get out to see somewhere new. But make sure you have a safe reliable car. I would like to thank Paul Conte Chevrolet for sponsoring this post on fun things to do in Philadelphia.
Liberty Bell
One of the first places that people think of when they think of Philadelphia is the Liberty Bell. The bell was designed by William Penn, the founder of Philadelphia, as a symbol of liberty for all. Today it stands as a symbol of democracy.
Lights of Liberty
If you are looking to see the world’s most amazing light show, you have to see the Lights of Liberty in the downtown area. Independence National Park is lit up at night and features several live performances that tell the tale of the American Revolution. Take a leasurely walk through the park, it takes about an hour and leave with memories to cherish.
Independence Hall
If you are making a trip to Philadelphia, be sure to visit Independence Hall. It is one of the most notable historical landmarks in the United States. It is that where the declaration of America’s independence and the constitution was penned.
Tomb of an Unknown Soldier
As a way to honor our soldiers, visit are the tomb of an unknown soldier. Exactly like the Vietnam memorial in Washington D.C, this monument is dedicated to the thousands unknown soldiers who had lost their lives either during battle or from diseases during the Revolutionary war. During early 1950s, a statue of George Washington and an unknown soldier was placed here to venerate and to remember those nameless war veterans who gave their lives to fetch freedom from the British rule.
Franklin Institute
Learning is fun no matter what age you are, and you should never stop trying to learn more. The Franklin Institute is a perfect place for the young and the young at heart. There are many different types of exhibits, things to learn and a lot of hands on activities.
South Street and Penn’s Landing
There is a lot of history and culture walking down South Street. It can be something fun during the day, a bit more lively at night. And it ends right at Penn’s Landing. Penn’s Landing has museums and historical boats to visit. There is often live acts, music and entertainments going on.
Pat’s or Geno’s Steaks
Cheese steaks are a must when you come to Philadelphia. You can not come to the are and not have one. But the real problem is where to go. Pat’s and Geno’s are the most well known places. Be sure to order your steak either “wit” or “wit out” but you have to get a sandwich.
