Need a car for your teenager? It is hard finding the right car. What to consider when choosing the Best Car for a Teenager

Choosing the Best Car for a Teenager

If you’re looking to get your teen a new car, or possibly their first car, how do you know which to choose? Finding just the right car for your teen driver can be a challenge, but it’s a very important decision to make.

Here are some tips for choosing the best car for a teenager:

  • Consider safety – teen drivers are inexperienced drivers and there’s a chance there could be an accident. You want your teen to be as safe as possible so choosing a car based on safety ratings is a smart idea.
  • Consider price – Price is another factor. A “starter” car might get dinged up or have fender benders and you may not want to invest a lot of money into it. A brand new car will also cost more in insurance coverage, so many families opt for a cheaper vehicle for their teens.
  • Consider the fuel economy – How much will your teen be driving? Who will be paying for their gas? You may want to get something that is economical on fuel versus a “gas guzzler” for your teen.
  • Consider the features – Does your teen know how to drive a stick shift? An automatic is probably going to be your best bet. Do you want power windows and door locks? Air conditioning? A rearview camera? Make a list of the features that are most important, the must-haves and the nice-to-haves and then have this to refer to while car shopping.

Now that you have this info, you’re better prepared for choosing the right car for your teenage driver. It’s also good to let your teen pick something they like aesthetically, whenever possible. If they love the look of the car, they’re more likely to take care of it properly, too.
